  SNAP-Scaffolding for Numerical Synapses

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you need to be a Montessorian to use this theme at home or in a classroom?

A: No. Integration of SNAP into all classrooms and childcare environments is intended to run easily and concurrently with previously established procedures. Additional themes work complementarily, running parallel, as well.
New and preexisting materials at preschools and daycare facilities will allow for a smoothly, adapted focus on any number, one to ten, and its corresponding geometric shape(s).
Every teacher, and parent, has his or her own favorite source of crafts, music, and books; they are invited to choose those that are related to the numbers one to ten and add them to the scheme.

Q: Can you change up and choose when to add a component to the scheme or not?

A: Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
–Some environments/teachers have displays with five food groups and others six food groups. This is an instance where you can change up. Present food groups while your focus is on five or six; you choose.
–Following the lead of Michael S. Schneider, author of "A Beginner's Guide to Creating the Universe," present seven musical notes, i.e., C, D, E, F, G, A, B.

Q: The Libyan flag is no longer given as representative of the number one and its geometric expressions. Why?

A: Until recently, the flag of Libya was a monochrome with no markings of any kind. Muammar Qaddafi in 1977 changed both the name of the country and its flag to a simple green rectangle. In February 2011, however, a new flag or “retro flag" – red, black, and green with a white star and crescent in the center was hoisted at Libyan embassies around the world.
